The main components of tubular fluorescent lamps are bulb, phosphor coating, electrode, filling gas and lamp cap.
1. Bulb: The bulb of ordinary fluorescent lamp is made of soda lime glass. In order to control the transmittance of short wavelength, iron oxide is added to the glass. The diameter of the lamp tube is 11～38 mm, the length is 150～2400mm, and the corresponding lamp power is 4～125 W. The more common tube lengths are 2ft (600mm), 4ft (1200mm) and 5ft (15oo mm). 2. Phosphor coating: The more important factor that determines the characteristics of fluorescent light is the type and composition of the phosphor. The phosphor not only determines the color temperature and color rendering of the lamp, but also determines the luminous efficiency of the lamp to a large extent. There are mainly three types of phosphors, and the lamps produced by them have various color characteristics.
3. Additional coating: In addition to the phosphor layer, sometimes there is a special additional coating on the bulb of the fluorescent lamp. What are the main components of fluorescent lamps? For example, for fluorescent lamps used in circuits without a starter, in order to prevent problems with starting under conditions of high humidity, silicon coating is used on the outside of the tube.
4. Electrode: Electrode is the heart of the gas discharge lamp, it is the main factor that determines the life of the lamp. The electrodes of fluorescent lamps are usually made of tungsten wire wound into a double helix or a triple helix, and the helix is coated with electron emitting materials (usually ternary oxide). The fluorescent lamp electrode produces thermionic emission to maintain the discharge and input external electric energy into the lamp.
5. Filling gas: mercury is filled in the fluorescent lamp. When the lamp is working normally, there is both mercury vapor and liquid mercury in the lamp. In other words, the fluorescent lamp is working under saturated mercury vapor state. The mercury vapor pressure in the lamp is determined by the temperature of the cold end of the lamp. The better mercury vapor pressure of fluorescent lamps of different tube diameters is different, so the better cold end temperature required is also different.
6. Lamp holder: There is a lamp holder at each end of the tubular fluorescent lamp. For fluorescent lamps whose filaments need to be heated, there are two contacts at each end of the lamp cap. Cold-start fluorescent lamps use single-contact bases. The ring fluorescent lamp has only one lamp cap, and there are four contacts on the lamp cap. Most of the contacts on the base of the fluorescent lamp are pin-shaped pins.
